Colorado Springs blogger Non-Prophet’s May 10 story about Ted Haggard’s email to his parishoners (http://nonprophet.typepad.com/nonprophet/2005/05/ted_haggard_don.html) about their behavior during media visits from Barbara Walters and Tom Brokaw made Michael Roberts’ media column in Denver’s Westword (http://westword.com/issues/2005-05-26/news/message.html), which made national media gossip columnist Romonesko’s blog today (http://www.poynter.org/column.asp?id=45.html).
Interestingly, Colorado Springs Independent Editor Cara DeGette writes about the same subject in her column in today’s issue of the Colorado Springs Independent (not yet posted on the web), but fails to mention Non-Prophet as the source. Strange, given that he’s local and that his story was picked up by the national news media almost immediately after he made the posting.

Today’s Best of the Springs GO! section of the Gazette calls The Toilet Paper “Best Bathroom Read”
Awww, and we thought they didn’t like us.
Here’s what they said with my commentary in brackets:
“You could get by without The Toilet Paper, but that’s a mighty unpleasant prospect. [Huh?] This homegrown paper’s layers [that was a pun, I think] of humor, stingingly blunt commentary [I don't generall think of blunt objects "stinging" so much as "thwacking" or "bludgeoning" -- perhaps "thwackingly blunt commentary" would have been a slightly less garbled metaphor] and punk ethos [can an ethos be punk? Respond] make it a must-read for anyone who wants to stay in touch with our community’s counterculture [Yeah, we should stay in touch and party sometime. See you in homeroom]. It’s like Colorado Springs’ answer to Vice Magazine [except we don't have as many photos of female junkies in see-through panties shooting up heroin in their groins, though we're working on it]”

Anybody who slathers themselves up in spandex like a tube sausage so they can go hang out with other aerodynamic tube sausages who travel in chain-powered packs in order to stop the evil that is privately owned automobiles has always bothered me, but what the fuck would they want with the racks? Noel, just go to uintah Gardens and steal all the extras racks laying around there.

I pulled the link to Rob Brendle’s blog because he and I both decided it would be best for the dialog to take place here on the TP site exclusively. (thanks Non Prophet)
Please don’t go to his blog and leave ignorant comments just to be inflammatory. That was never the point of us doing this column together. Keep in mind that Rob stuck his neck out by putting his name on a column in the Toilet Paper and the least all of us can do is pay him the respect of being thoughtful.

Our friendly neighborhood blogger Non Prophet has broken yet another national news story. This time it’s Ted Haggard’s email to his parishoners about how to effectively communicate with the national media. Both Tom Brokaw and Barbara Walters are scheduled to appear at New Life next week and PR is obvioulsy at the front of everyone’s mind now that Jeff Sharlet over at Harper’s turned on the spotlight.

Despite the fact that PPCC is a publicly funded educational institution that allows locals to take really cheap classes, some students seem to feel that free expression on campus shouldn’t be part of the already way-too-scintillating community college experience.
3 out of the 5 racks that we had there as per the demands of the administration now appear to be missing.
Anyone who goes to PPCC and knows anything about this: please let us know.

Rob Brendle: John, it seems most publicly funded schools now teach “evolutionary science” as the origin of humankind. The public perception of the message from the educational community increasingly is that evolution is a matter of indisputable scientific fact, and any sort of intelligent design is folklore on the plane of Hercules and his winged horse. In reality, evolution seems to require as much faith as any religious teaching. I’m fine with adherents of a humanist religion believing a far-flung theory according to their faith convictions, but I’m not fine with their force-feeding it to my children as scientific fact. I’m not fine with this any more than you, I presume, would be fine with your children’s tax-salaried teachers foisting the Garden of Eden on them. So what makes your religious belief superior? Can you prove the theory of evolution?

Here’s the account from Delaney at KRCC:
“I got the call at the station from some man called “Hamilton.” The funny thing was, he was giving us shit for the www.mykrcc.org ad. Not very well researched, just blind calling. There are some bored fucking people in this town. Mario ended up with the call, he politely sent him to our boss, and then she [the boss] insisted we didn’t advertise in the paper. We’ve since explained to her that we do.’
