The Denver Post reports that the National Renewable Energy Lab (NREL) in Golden is seeing its funding skyrocket this year. This is in stark contrast to about a year ago when the lab lost millions, forcing it to layoff dozens of employees. The president went to visit the lab shortly thereafter, apparently not realizing until only a day or so ahead of his arrival that the people there weren’t so happy with his administration and its partners in Congress. Through some sort of executive order, and basically calling the whole debacle a budget error, Bush re-hired most of the workers just before his visit. Phew - PR disaster like so averted, dudes!
Today - thanks to public awareness of environmental issues, the soaring cost of gas, the Republicans’ need to re-shape their image, and a new legislature in Washington - things are turning around for NREL. It’s about goddamn time.

Is the wazoo somewhere near the taint?
This post is part of an ongoing Newspeak! quality assurance program. Under the new QA mandates, a minimum of half of all posts must reference “naughty bits.” The goal is to increase the number of naughty bit posts to 100% by 2009. By 2015, all posts will be expected to contain at least two mentions of private parts, with no less than 3 f-bombs dropped per 100 words.
Only the best for our readership!
This is especially good for those of us who grew up Catholic…..I just knew I had a “little business.” I am happy that Newspeak! is turning into an anatomy lesson. FUCK (I know that was overkill since this comment has very few words…..consider it encouragement).
Ahem… back to the topic at hand here.
Colorado is going to be kicking some renewable energy ass over the next ten years. On top of the NREL funding boost, ground in the San Luis Valley has been broken for the country’s largest solar power plant. So, one traveling in the valley on SH17 (yes, it does look like “shit”), if they so wished, could visit not just the alligators and the UFO tower, but also catch a glimpse of the plant.
Ritter has thus far come out strongly for green energy, which makes me glad I voted for him.
