Phone and cable corporations like COMCAST are trying to restrict your freedom on the Internet. And now they are paying people to roadblock the democratic process! Watch the 1-minute video above and then read more:
John Kerry at the Huffington Post.
In case you don’t know:
Who wants to get rid of Net Neutrality?
The nation’s largest telephone and cable companies — including AT&T, Verizon, Comcast and Time Warner — want to be Internet gatekeepers, deciding which Web sites go fast or slow and which won’t load at all.
They want to tax content providers to guarantee speedy delivery of their data. They want to discriminate in favor of their own search engines, Internet phone services, and streaming video — while slowing down or blocking their competitors.
These companies have a new vision for the Internet. Instead of an even playing field, they want to reserve express lanes for their own content and services — or those from big corporations that can afford the steep tolls — and leave the rest of us on a winding dirt road.
The big phone and cable companies are spending hundreds of millions of dollars lobbying Congress and the Federal Communications Commission to gut Net Neutrality, putting the future of the Internet at risk.

Or something, according to this puzzling Clinton ad:
To his credit, ‘Bama countered with this statement:
I just want to take a moment to respond to an ad that Senator Clinton is apparently running today that asks, ‘Who do you want answering the phone in the White House when it’s 3am and something has happened in the world?’
“We’ve seen these ads before. They’re the kind that play on peoples’ fears to scare up votes.
Well, duh. But let’s not forget the attack ads that Obama himself ran, featuring a visibly drunk Bill Clinton, taking hits from a hash pipe while sodomizing a kitten, with the voiceover: “Jesus, people. Hasn’t he done enough damage already?” JK!

A fond farewell to Mr. Robert Snowden, excellent young artist from CC who departs for Memphis and beyond tomorrow. May your humor and enthusiasm rub off onto the classes that follow you. And good luck!

If you’ve been downtown, you’ve surely noticed the work they’ve been doing to prepare for the Great Tejon Two-Way Conversion Of ‘08. Half-built streetlights like this one are popping up at each of the five (or six?) intersections that will be affected by the un-one-waying that will magically fix the be-slumped downtown economy. And if the conversion demands lane closures and increased snarling of traffic that already affects us, that’s cool, ’cause NEW STREELIGHTS! NEW STREETLIGHTS!
Keep in mind that we’ll be liveblogging the first day of conversion, too. That should be fun. Or not.

HERE’s a great piece over at the Stranger on book-thieving by a guy who works at an Indy bookstore.

HERE.
Finally, a leader in the black community is standing up to homophobia, and I’m glad it’s Obama, and I’m glad it’s now!

But hey … Freedom!
Duh, what Bernie Sanders said:
“These sad facts reflect a very distorted set of national priorities,” said Sen. Bernie Sanders, an independent from Vermont, referring to the full report. “Perhaps, if we adequately invested in our children and in education, kids who now grow up to be criminals could become productive workers and taxpayers.”

It’s sunny and warm out for the first time in forever. Yay! To add to the fun, the space that used to house Bijou Gardens, right across Bijou from the stately, spacious Newspeak offices, has put up a sign declaring the impending arrival of Athan’s Downtown Market.
The space is pretty tiny, so it doesn’t look like there’s be a deli or anything like that, but the sign says they’ll have “organic snacks” in addition to cigarettes, cigars, magazines and other sundries. I’m sure they’ll do a bustling business, since there’s not a single place downtown right now where you can get anything in the aspirin/tampon world. My round-the-clock spying tells me that it’s the folks from Zing! and State of Mind who’re involved, and good on ‘em—we’ve needed a store like this downtown for some time.

But not about the fact that he was bisexual/gay, of course. They’re blaming a lot of it on ADHD, which, according to Murray’s neurologist father, has some tie to Satan (????).
I love this quote:
“He was told he was loved every day,” Ronald Murray said.
Of course being loved and being told you’re loved are two very different things, and when you’re part of a culty Christian culture I’m sure the love is always contingent on abiding by the morally proscribed behaviors. God forbid the Murray’s should take any responsibility for their culty regiosity.
