I can’t get the video version to load, probably because of the network here, but I caught the audio version of the interview on KRCC the other day and it did not make me want to get behind Christo and Jeanne-Claude’s quest to drape Bighorn Sheep Canyon. I drive the canyon at least once a month and as far as I can tell, the canyon doesn’t need further disturbance. For starters, there are many sections of the road that do not have shoulder, and many areas are rock slide areas. So any person wanting to view their project would not have many places to park. That would add to the congestion already in the canyon. During the summer there are rafters, fishermen, and tourists aplenty. Plus, the bighorn sheep are notorious for hanging out near or on the road. “Gentle disturbance” my ass.
In the interview, Jeanne-Claude came across as a self-absorbed idiot. Any project of the size they propose should be for the greater good and not because a couple of artists want to see the canyon draped. As an aspiring artist I have about as much respect for Christo and Jeanne-Claude’s work as I do for Jeff Koons and Dale Chihuly (which is not a lot).
Problems with the video, Jeff? Sorry to hear it. You’ll need a fast internet connection, a good processor, and the latest version of Flash installed. Try refreshing the page if all else fails…. Thanks for listening!
Fast internet is exactly what we don’t have here in Crestone. But, since I get KRCC our of Salida I tune in that way.
Another reason to give up the good life and move back, I should say!
