Here’s a video of a cop ambushing a dude on a bike. For, like, no apparent reason.

And here’s another one.

Glorified security guards for the Corporate State. No more. No less. “To Serve and Protect” is a motto devoid of meaning according to the Supreme Court in Castle Rock v. Gonzales. The police serve the interests of the 1% corporate elite. Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, and Good Cops: three lies that almost every parent teaches their kids. Why?

The same thing happened a few years ago to a good friend of mine who was riding along with CM covering it for a well known newspaper. The cops get really mad because they can’t really stop it. They usually just follow the mass with scooters but every once in a while a cop loses their temper. In my friend’s case I believe they settled out of court. Riding with 100’s of people disrupting NYC traffic generates some of the best feelings in the world but it pisses off a lot of people, not just cops. I have seen cab drivers go absolutely berserk. It’s really funny to watch. People getting mad over bicycles.

Does anyone do CM here in the springs? After watching these, I really really want to go next month.

No, but we should organize one. We used to tie them in with various cause like “Save the Gardens” dress up like plants, etc. We could do the zombie ride out to Focus.

There are good cops and bad cops, just like there are good people and bad people. It’s not a cliche. That said, this cop is apparently of the rotten variety. Not only was he excessively, unnecessarily brutal in “apprehending” the cyclist, but he’s a fucking liar. That’s what pisses me off the most…these assholes abuse their power of authority and “create” the situation as they see fit. Fucking disgusting.

Phew. Good and bad people. Good and bad cops. Wonder what the ratio is between the two?

actually, there are CM rides here. i know a few different people who have tried organizing them for several years now, with quite varied turnout. the last 2-3 years it seems there can be a decent sized group… for the springs anyways. it meets at wooglin’s the last friday of the month. i think around 5? i haven’t participated in one in a few months though.

Yeah, what fiedler said. I’ll see you guys on the 28th, then.

We lie to our children so that someday they will figure out (on their own) that we were lying. This realization is a quintessentially important rite-of-passage from childhood to adulthood. It’s one of the things that allows them to take one more step away from us, and one more step towards their own destinies. One more way in which the world becomes less black and white. There are just some things that kids gotta figure out for themselves.

All told, if given the choice between my lost child getting into a car with a complete stranger or a cop, I’d have to go with the cop. And I’m not one of those “stranger danger” preachers, either. (I realize that’s a completely different situation than the one presented here, but I’m just sayin’.)

I’ve done a couple of CM bike rides in Portland, OR. They were great!
