From Not My Tribe:

MEET -AFTER WORK- TUESDAY at the corner of SMITH BARNEY and MORGAN STANLEY, where DAIN RAUSCHER meets BOOZ ALLEN HAMILTON at the Plaza of the Rockies Building. That’s where Colorado Springs needs to voice its objections to a bailout for the Wall Street extortionists. Don’t hand over America’s wealth to the money traders! Scribble your sentiments on the back of whatever poster-board is lying around your office and meet at TEJON & COLORADO from 4:30-5:30PM. Bring determination to tell them NO!

So there’s that.

Now that’s hard-hitting news.

Ahhh to be 18 again. For the first time in your life you can purchase lottery tickets, enlist in a major branch of Armed Service, order cerveza’s in Mexico and vote in a U.S. election. An important thing to remember though is that you must register to vote prior to the election. If you are like most people and say “I will register the next time I go to the DMV” lets be honest, people avoid the DMV like the plague and the next thing you know the election is over and you are sitting there saying “ wow I would have never voted for him”. Well now is the time to register to vote and it couldn’t be easier. There are several ways to accomplish this. 1.) Go find a person on the street with a clipboard and ask them if they will register you to vote (make sure they are registering folks to vote and not bandits). 2.) Go to the DMV (ha ha ho ho yuk yuk) 3.) The easiest option! Go to the Colorado Secretary of State website and follow the steps to register and if you are the type that hates lines, waiting and voting booths, you can also sign up for permanent mail in ballots on this site. This option is quick, easy and can be done over that fabulous interweb. Now you all have the power of Grayskull to be voter ready for the election this fall so get out there and vote! Also, if you are anything like me you would wait for November 3rd to register. No dice! Registration ends October 6th so hop to it.

This is my favorite segment of Colorado Culture Cast ever! Watch Senator Salazar explain away the fact that Congress is Bush’s lapdog; watch Denver’s mayor prove why he is the coolest city leader in America; watch members of the media ride roller coasters and rock out to party bands; watch a political pirate promote responsible alcoholism; watch Craig dance in a wacky fun-house mirror.

Gotcha Journalism

From the Wonkette entry:

The YouTube description says, “I came home from football practice one evening and my parents were talking to our neighbors who were drunk. This is what happened … I live in southeastern kentucky FYI.” Well, you have been warned, America. Here are three drunk Kentucky hillbillies ranting about Obama while sitting on a filthy AIDS unicorn.

The funniest part is when one of the toothless rednecks says, “I voted for Hillary” just before another notes, sagely, “He’s on the nigger side.”

The House just defeated the bailout.

… But Matt Damon was right.

And what, may I ask, are times coming to when MATT FUCKING DAMON is proven wiser than our potential leaders? Will Dane Cook become a prescient political force? Will Vin Diesel win the Pulitzer? Will lions lie with lambs and Shannon Doherty ascend to Chairman of the Fed? Are we living under the Affleck Doctrine? I am so confused and need help understanding. This is all so insane.

The last week has impressed upon me that we are actually living in an actual time that actually might be considered as historical, for the first time for most of us; upon hearing of the stumbling bailout summit on Thursday, after which Harry Reid commented that McCain was “not helpful,” it occurred to me that my child or grandchild would read about this someday: “After the credit industry failed, there was an attempt to reach an agreement, to offer money to the banks with stipulations about how they could continue to fuck over citizens, but Speaker Pelosi and other Democrats could not convince the President or the GOP candidate to agree, and so the economy collapsed. And that’s why we had the Second Revolution.”

So seriously. I’ve been blogging lightly this week, but this stuff has been all I’ve thought or talked about, and I’ve had the benefit of conversation with my brother-in-law, who is a British-schooled economic wunderkind. (He, for instance, explained what being an LLC means, how equity works and why most companies actually operate in the red.) Given that, I do think we’re living in an important time, an era that trumps our parents’ Baby Boomer woes, the misgivings of the early ’80s, the recession of the ’90s, and pretty much everything else this century save the Depression. And it might get there yet.

We need fundamental change. We need sea change. America cannot function for much longer without it. Doing so means the end of empire. A few months ago, I was much rosier, but these days, I empathize much more with the folks I held as radicals, crazy conspiracy theorists, Paultards and their ilk. Recently, I’ve talked a lot, and seriously, about moving to the mountains (with guns!), or leaving the country, or taking to the streets. Things have gotten very serious, very quickly, in my mind, and I don’t think I’m alone in thinking so.
