So, I just finished re-reading one of my favorite guilty pleasure novels, Youth in Revolt, for the bazillionth time. And since it was fresh in my mind, I checked out author C.D. Payne’s website to see what’s going on. What’s going on is that Youth in Revolt is finally filming, after being optioned in 1995 and abandoned as a pilot for both FOX and MTV. And guess who’s playing plucky protagonist Nick Twisp? Michael fucking Cera.
The rest of the cast is pretty sweet, too: Jean Smart as Nick’s mom, Steve Buscemi as Nick’s dad, Ray Liotta as his asshole cop stepdad, Zack Galifaniakis as his mom’s ex Jerry, That Guy From the Mac Commercials as his girlfriend’s jazz-trumpet oracle brother, and Fred Willard as his labor-activist neighbor. I for one am retardedly excited for the movie—which is based on a book the author self-published. Cool, no?
And here’s some jiggly footage of filming, presumably from a scene where Nick burns down half of Berkeley.
