I don't find anything particularly surprising about it. We live in a world in which way too many people seem to be expecting SuperJesus to emerge from the great beyond to put a good smiting on Ay-Rabs and Lib-Ruls and anyone with a modicum of good sense. Just any time now...
That the Canadians would have their own particular subset of Armageddon fantasy seems reg'lar enough to me.
And the fact remains that the UFO phenomena is widespread, even if documentation of it is not. For all the vast array of weirdness out there, though, I have yet to see anything that seems legitimately extra-terrestrial. Seriously, where are the aliens? Hollywood has promised me aliens, and I want aliens.
Come one...there is no way that we are the apex of the evolutionary chain. If humans are the best nature can do, then we're all screwed. There has to be more intelligent life out there and if they spend any amount of time among the humans, they will try to wipe us out. We deserve it.
Who said anything about humans being at the apex of the evolutionary chain? Evolution is a fundamentally random process. That humans have had reproductive success doesn't indicate anything about our moral or intellectual development as a species.
If you need a surrogate for Jesus, have at it. If you want me to buy into this alien crap, then bring me an alien.

I suggest checking out "The Day After Roswell."
The author is a little kooky but he fills the book with much compelling evidence for ET contact and reverse engineering of their technology.

Oh, and as far as I can tell, we're all screwed.
