Wow! What a terrible idea!

Dayoftruth_large

Regarding the above and this story in yesterday's 'Zette:

Fuck you. Seriously.

While there are worse ideas than the Day of Truth, which purports to counter today's Day of Silence with an "honest conversation about homosexuality," they number pretty much in the single digits.* And you know what's hilarious? Here's the message students are encourage to print onto T-shirts or cards to hand out (emphasis added):

I'm speaking the Truth to break the silence. True tolerance means that people with differing -- even opposing -- viewpoints can freely exchange ideas and respectfully listen to each other. It's time for an honest conversation about homosexuality. There's freedom to change if you want to. Let’s talk.

So, let's break this down. Fundotards get upset that the LGBT community creates a day to bring attention to violence against LGBT kids in schools. This year's Day "is held in memory of Lawrence King, a California 8th-grader who was shot and killed Feb. 12 by a classmate because of his sexual orientation and gender expression." Fundies look at that and don't say, "Golly, how sad that such intolerant behavior exists," but rather, "That's promoting a homosexshul agenda!"

So the fundies then send their kids to public schools the Monday following Day of Silence with T-shirts and placards devoted to curing gays. "Let's talk," indeed. Let's talk about how curing gays totally works—until it, you know, doesn't.

The 'Zette says that 7000 local kids participated in the Day of Truth last year. Ack. My favorite part of this is, again, the whining and oh-dear-me gasp of discrimination against the poor fundies, who appropriate civil-rights rhetoric and claim, semi-truthfully, "But our beliefs aren't being respected in public schools!" Well, good.

Maybe you folks should move away..

*Worse ideas: #1, #2, #3, #4.

Matthew Murray's Parents Speak to Dobson

But not about the fact that he was bisexual/gay, of course. They're blaming a lot of it on ADHD, which, according to Murray's neurologist father, has some tie to Satan (????).

I love this quote:

"He was told he was loved every day," Ronald Murray said.

Of course being loved and being told you're loved are two very different things, and when you're part of a culty Christian culture I'm sure the love is always contingent on abiding by the morally proscribed behaviors. God forbid the Murray's should take any responsibility for their culty regiosity.

Another inductee to the Heterosexual Hall of Fame

Cara DeGette has a piece up at Colorado Confidential outlining the further sexploits of former El Paso Co. GOP rising star Randy Ankeny, who was put in jail for yet another sexual assault charge. At the time of his 2001 arrest, this sort of behavior seemed like an anomaly in the world of family values, but events since then have illustrated that it's really not so uncommon. But hey—at least Ankeny's pubescent victims were women, just like the Bible says. Congrats, Randy, and welcome to the Colorado Heterosexual Hall of Fame.

(And the following is for Josh Johnson.)

Recently in Hypocrisy

Sen. David Vitter (R-Louisiana) has just been linked to the "DC Madam" via - you guessed it - Hustler magazine. Sayeth CNN,

"He is married and has four children. Vitter was one of the top backers of a failed constitutional amendment that would have banned same-sex marriage and serves as the Southern regional chairman of former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani's presidential campaign. In his Monday statement, he offered his "deep and sincere apologies to all I have disappointed and let down in any way."

The hypocrisy hits just keep on comin'. I think Jesus is gonna start getting pissed.

Army Chaplain Charged With Cyberstalking, Adultery

The take home quote:

"Earlier this year, Ruffner said she met Myers in 2004 through an online personal ad. He said he was single and claimed to be a military intelligence soldier, never mentioning that he actually was married and a chaplain, she said."

The rest is here.

A Show of Hands

Who feels sorry for THIS "CHILD":

He was "manipulated" into having sexual contact with this filthy Jezebel, Carrie McCandless:

Quoth the victim, Tommy Clay:

"I went back to school about a month after everything happened. The girls in my school kind of turned their shoulders. It was a lot harder to find dates. But the other teachers were very supportive."

That's right: "It was a lot harder to find dates."!

I, for one, feel vewy, vewy sorry for you, wittle Tommy Cway.
