Oscars! Oscars! Oscars!

Oscardamus

So, while we're not doing the Oscardamus contest from last year, we will be liveblogging the whole shebang again. Any contributors, you're invited to blog with us, but it might be a bit slim, since Chef's Gala is on the same night this year again. But the show should be a brain-'sploding one, with Jon Stewart hosting and some very good movies (like I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry!) nominated. Tune in on Sunday!

Oh, to be that dress.

For those of you who, like us and Will Ferrell and Jack Black and John C. Reilly, drooled over grandmotherly hottie Helen Mirren at the Oscars, here's her on Oprah, showing off that lovely boob-cupping dress. Mmmm.

After party?

The answer is a firm yes.

I hereby invite all bloggers to join us for an after party at the Metropolitain. I know it's Sunday, so we won't go late, but it'd be nice to get together and chat. I'm headed out in a few. Hope to see you there.

Ha-ha, haters.

A total surprise, but I'm happy with Best Picture. I loved the movie a ton, loved all the acting, the writing, the pacing and thought the third act was great. I've seen better movies this year, namely The Queen and Notes on a Scandal, but the Oscars, especially in the big multicultural fiesta that was this year, needed to go to an American movie.

The Departed

More like the Defarted. plflfllftttttttt.

Good on Marty.

I know some of ya'll hated The Departed, but I think it's a great movie and one of the best Scorcese films and totally deserving of many honors.

When I make my movie ...

... it will be called Zamboni Camp and I will cast Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep, Orlando Bloom, John C. Reilly, Michael Ian Black and John Hodgman as summer campers who compete against the rich kids' Zamboni camp across the lake (the rich kids will be Seth Rogen, among others).

I will crush Noel's lesbian figure-skating movie at the box office.

And best actor goes to the fave, Forrest. Good for him. Heard it's a great movie, haven't seen it yet, and Peter O'Toole is kind of a wiener.

I assume that commercials are different...

... by region, but I love that iPhone commercial, and only partially because of my Mac dorkitude. Another example of Apple taking a simple concept and doing it very well.

And OF COURSE Helen Mirren wins, as she should. That movie was amazing, she was amazing, but I would've liked to have seen the guy who played Blair nominated, too. And James Cromwell, who remains one of the most underrated utility actors ever.

Mirren

not just best actress.. best looking old lady on the planet. Best sounding woman on the planet. The woman most like to make me a lesbian..
