What Savage said about Obama

HERE.

Finally, a leader in the black community is standing up to homophobia, and I'm glad it's Obama, and I'm glad it's now!

This Just In: Bush to Meet w/ Assam

From a tipster via the AP wire:

The White House says he (Boosh, who is visiting Colo today) also plans to meet with Jeanne Assam, the volunteer security guard who wounded a gunman at New Life Church in Colorado Springs before he killed himself after a deadly rampage December 9th.

Hardy har. Wonder if God found her that man yet?

SOTU fun!

For those of you who missed it entirely, turned it off in disgust after five minutes, or hurled a bourbon bottle through the screen of your teevee, you can read the full text of the Bush's final State of the Union address here.

Then, visit Think Progress, who thoughtfully fact-checked the entire speech. For instance:

Bush said: “And our Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief is treating 1.4 million people [in Africa]. We can bring healing and hope to many more. So I ask you to maintain the principles that have changed behavior and made this program a success.”

FACT — BUSH’S AIDS POLICIES DIVERT FUNDS TO FAILED ABSTINENCE-ONLY PROGRAMS: Bush’s policy states that one-third of money allocated for HIV prevention overseas go to abstinence-only programs. “In fact, a full two-thirds of the money for the prevention of the sexual spread of HIV goes to abstinence.” [American Prospect, 7/10/07]

FACT: This might be the last time a United States President addresses both houses of Congress and uses the word "nukaler." Huzzah.

I Love A Snowy Day

Last night, Ursen and I went out skiing through the streets of the Westside for 3 hours with only the faintest wiff of methcook mingled in with the woodsmoke as we passed beneath the crisp triangular snowglobes of streetlight.

It was awesome.

Cross-country skiing is awesome.

Snow is great.

I'm having a hard time giving a shit about anything much besides cross-country skiing and hanging out with my family these days.

I turn 36 later this year, I've already sworn off shit-talking about they who shan't be named and I don't really care nearly as much about the election crap as I thought I would (which isn't to say I'm not looking forward to the alleged post-Bush era). I think I'm going to take this opportunity to pass the mantle of Greater Hater on to my homosexual partner, Aaron Retka.

Sure, I'll still be Hater Emeritus. But for now I think I'll nominate myself for Mayor of Schlubberton.

More pictures of my dog and Aaron's ponytail to follow.

I don't see Edison coils playing the Super Mario Bros. theme.

Yes, these are Tesla coils, and yes, they're playing the Super Mario Bros. theme. COS represent, although I'm not sure why this song has become the de facto anthem for musical dorks.

If you like bad poetry..

You can buy a book of poems I wrote bewtween 2002-2005. It's about 90 pages, has drawings too. It is called "All My Little Everythings." I just got 24 copies back from the printer this afternoon. $5 for a copy. I'll be at the Rubbish for a little while in case you have a fiver on hand.

If you want to try before you buy, you can read some at http://blog.myspace.com/161038

though some of those arent in the book. I will have a 24 page pamphlet, Brian Nemeth style (though nothing like his content) called "recently assembled pieces" for like $2.50 if you want more recent material.

Some people say my stuff is "perverted" and other people say its "letting it all out" but other people think its "very beatnik and not very slam at all" while some people I know really really like it alot. Its not crude or anything, except when I think that would sound good. I got snickered off the stage Rico's monday night, but on the other hand, it went over very well at the PPCC first friday readings.

CS Council says yes to diversity

Stole this offa the KRCC website....

Colorado Springs' city council voted unanimously today to officially sponsor a downtown cultural festival this August. This after two members expressed concerns about the city sponsoring an event that might be viewed as promoting pro-gay political views.
The vote means that the non-profit group organizing the festival, the Colorado Springs Diversity Forum, wont have to pay to use city facilities downtown, or for police, barricade and clean-up services.
At least two council members today said theyre worried that the citys sponsorship of the event could be misinterpreted or exploited by extremists, but still voted to sponsor the event. Speaking in favor of the event were several members of the business community who argued that Colorado Springs needs to counter its reputation for not being diverse, or being intolerant, in order attract new businesses to town.
More details to come, tune in to hear our coverage of the meeting tonight at 6:30pm on KRCC.
