Not everybody enjoys a room that looks like no one is living in it, empty, white and clean all the time. However, most of us dread the clutter and mess in our rooms that are bound to happen after a few days of living in it. Some rooms get dirtier, and some less.
But they all somehow end up with clothes on the floor, trash under the bed, dust all over the surfaces, and glasses of water all over the room. If you wish to learn more about how to keep your bedroom clean and organized, keep on reading these helpful tips!
1. Make the Bed
In a bedroom, everything starts and ends with the bed. So, why shouldn’t you? At the beginning of every cleaning and organizing, the first thing you should do is make your bed. Put on some fresh, clean sheets, make the duvet and arrange as many decorative pillows as you like (you can buy them at your local Kmart or Bed Bath N’ Table). This will give you a clean slate for the next thing on your list.
2. Pick Up Everything from the Floor
And we mean it, pick everything up and put it on the bed. Once you’ve done this, get organizing! Organize everything into piles, as many as you need. Those piles can be for clean/dirty laundry, shoes, decorative pieces, dishes, trash and so on. Once you have organized it all into their separate piles, start putting everything in its own place.
To help you from constantly pacing to different areas of the house, separate these piles according to the room they should go to. If there are things that don’t yet have an intended spot, don’t worry – keep them for later, but put them somewhere out of the way. Once you have finished this stage, you are ready for the next step.
3. Get Cleaning!
Now that all your surfaces are empty, and the floor is accessible, first dust off everything. Start from the top and work your way to the ground. Once you’ve done this, get a wet rag and wipe off every surface. After that, get the hoover and clean the floors. If you want to go deeper, you can always clean the windows and the doors. Remember those bits and pieces that were out of their place? Now is the time to find them a place. So, if you don’t have a lot of space in your room, utilize the space under the bed, for example.
You can put anything there, from out of season clothes, decoration pieces, to linens. But remember, out of sight, out of mind, so be careful not to forget where you put those things when you need them. You can also organize smaller items in smaller boxes, and you can choose decorative boxes so that you can keep them on open shelves.
Once you finally have clean surfaces, and you put away all the stuff, you can get to the fun part – decorating. Whether you want to change some bits and pieces, bring in something new or just rearrange things now is the time. If you have bad lighting, a simple and cheap fix is to bring in some string lights and hook them on the wall above your bed.
Putting some stickers on the walls is also a good idea. And if you feel like going the extra mile, you can go out and purchase some new paintings and hang them in your space.
